QuietNights
Gentle Sleep Trainer for Children
Having a problem? We're here to help.
How the App Works
QuietNights uses colour and a friendly on-screen character to tell young children whether it is still sleep time or whether morning has arrived. Because children aged 1.5–6 cannot yet read a clock, the app replaces numbers with simple, unmistakable visual cues: dark navy means "stay in bed", bright green means "you may get up".
Parents set the schedule once in the password-protected Settings screen. The child-facing clock runs all night on the family device, guiding bedtime and wake-up routines without any adult intervention. The app works entirely offline and contains no advertising or data collection of any kind.
Frequently Asked Questions
Getting Started
What age is QuietNights designed for?
QuietNights is designed for children approximately 1.5 to 6 years old who cannot yet read a clock. The colour-based display means even very young toddlers can understand whether it is time to get up.
How do I set the bedtime and wake-up time?
Tap the small settings icon in the corner of the clock screen. You will be shown a parental gate (a simple arithmetic question). Once you answer correctly, tap Schedule and adjust the times using the time pickers.
What is the parental gate?
A simple addition question — for example, "What is 3 + 4?" — shown before the settings screen opens. It prevents young children from accidentally changing the schedule or other settings.
Sleep States and Display
What do the colours mean?
- Dark navy — Sleep: stay in bed.
- Warm amber with stars — Almost Time: morning is coming soon.
- Bright green — Wake: you may get up.
- Calm blue — Nap time.
What are the stars on the amber screen?
They are a countdown in the "Almost Time" window. One star fades out at each interval until the full wake-up time arrives. The number of stars and the length of the warning window are configurable in Settings.
Can I turn off the digital clock display?
Yes. In Settings → Display, choose Never for "Show digital clock". This means only the character and colours are visible — ideal for younger children who might be distracted by the numbers.
Alarms and Sounds
How do I set a wake-up alarm sound?
In Settings → Alarm Sound, enable the toggle and choose from three gentle sounds: soft chime, birdsong, or bell.
The alarm doesn't play when the phone is on silent — is that expected?
Yes. The app respects the iOS Ring/Silent switch. If you need the alarm to play in silent mode, consider using a separate alarm app alongside QuietNights.
How do I dismiss the alarm?
Tap anywhere on the clock screen to dismiss the alarm sound.
Nap Timer
How do I start a nap?
Open Settings (parental gate required), go to Nap Timer, choose a duration, and tap Start Now. The screen enters the calm blue nap state immediately.
Can I cancel a nap before it ends?
Yes. Re-open Settings and tap Cancel Nap in the Nap Timer section.
Night Light
What is Night Light mode?
In Night Light mode the screen dims to a low brightness during Sleep and Nap states, acting as a soft glowing nightlight. You can configure the brightness level in Settings and set it to turn off automatically after a set time.
Device and Technical
Which devices is QuietNights compatible with?
iPhone and iPad running iOS 16 or later.
Does the app need an internet connection?
No. QuietNights works entirely offline. It makes no network requests of any kind.
Will the screen stay on all night?
By default, yes — the app prevents the device from auto-locking while the clock face is visible. You can use the Night Light auto-off feature in Settings to turn the screen off after a set time.
Does the app use my child's data or show ads?
No. QuietNights contains no advertising, no analytics, and no data collection of any kind. See the Privacy Policy for full details.
Troubleshooting
I forgot how to get into Settings / the parental gate won't accept my answer.
The gate presents a simple addition question. Make sure you enter the correct numeric answer. After three consecutive wrong answers there is a 30-second lockout before you can try again.
The alarm sound didn't play.
Check that the alarm is enabled in Settings → Alarm Sound and that the device volume is turned up. Remember that the Ring/Silent switch must be in Ring mode.
The app isn't transitioning to Wake state at the correct time.
Check that Settings → Schedule → Enable schedule is toggled on and that the correct wake-up time is set. Also verify that your device's time zone is correct in the iOS Settings app.
The app crashed / something isn't working.
